At the end of watching Iron Man I said: “Jon Favreau must be lovin’ life right now.” The movie was so wonderful — I knew he must be on top of the world. The KING of the world.
But what a difference a big hit makes. Now the fair Favreau is “blogging out” about Iron Man 2 because Marvel executives have been throwing around an April 2010 release date, but he’s still not been signed for the sequel. What’s up with that?
Jon: You make your masterpiece, the money comes rollin’ in but you’re getting yanked around like – well, like a paper doll not an iron man. Sure it concerns you — hey, I’m concerned…just a little.
Here’s what Jon said on MySpace:
“Neither Robert [Downey Jr.] nor I were consulted about this and we are both concerned about how realistic the date is. We owe it to the fans to have a great version of IM2 and, at this point, we would have less time to make it than the first one.”
Look, I feel you dog. You want to make your masterpiece and you don’t need the suits to hem you in. Especially when you don’t have a story, script, or writers…or a signed director for that matter. I know the Marvel machine must be fed but I’m with Jon and Robert D. Jr. — do what you need to do to get it right.
I’m bankin’ on Favreau. After all, he’s got it Made
